Which MyLaps Transponder Do I Need?
My Store AdminMyLaps makes several TR2 transponder variants, and they are not interchangeable. Buying the wrong one means it won't work at your events. This guide tells you exactly which transponder you need based on your racing discipline.

TR2 Speedway
For speedway oval racing — saloon cars, stock cars, midgets, production sedans, and any other class competing on a dirt oval track. This is the most common transponder for NZ speedway competitors. Compatible with MyLaps X2 and TranX timing systems used at the vast majority of NZ speedway venues including Palmerston North, Whanganui, Western Springs, Baypark, and Ruapuna.
Rechargeable. Up to 5 days battery. IP67 waterproof. Managed via Speedhive app.
TR2 Car, Bike & Offroad
For circuit racing (cars and bikes), superkart, and offroad events. If you race on a sealed circuit — club racing, endurance, time attack, superkart — this is your transponder. Also covers offroad disciplines that use MyLaps timing.
Rechargeable. Subscription required. Managed via Speedhive app.
TR2 MX Bike
Specifically designed for motocross, enduro, and trail bike events using MyLaps timing. If your MX track or enduro series uses MyLaps, this is the correct variant — not the Car/Bike transponder.
TR2 Motorbike
For road racing and circuit bike events where the TR2 Motorbike variant is specifically required by the series or venue. Check with your club or series coordinator if you're unsure whether you need the Motorbike or Car/Bike variant.
TR2 Kart
Compact form factor designed specifically for kart racing. If you race karts at a venue using MyLaps timing, this is the correct transponder. The Kart transponder is smaller and mounts differently to the car/bike variants.
TR2 Direct Power
The Direct Power variants are hardwired to your vehicle's battery — no charging required, no subscription management via app. Designed for competitors who want a permanently installed, always-ready transponder. Available in two variants:
- TR2 Direct Power Car/Bike — for circuit racing cars and bikes
- TR2 Direct Power Speedway — for speedway oval racing
TR2 vs TR2 Go — What's the Difference?
This applies to the rechargeable variants (Speedway, Car/Bike, Kart, MX, Motorbike):

For any competitor racing a full season, the TR2 is the better investment. The unlimited warranty means MyLaps replaces the unit at no cost if it fails while your subscription is current.
