Motorsport Helmet Standards for Australia | FIA & Snell Guide

Choosing a helmet for Australian motorsport starts with your discipline and the current rules for your category and event. Harris Race Radios™ can help compare genuine motorsport helmet models, fit, communications and the physical standard labels to check. Final acceptance rests with the organiser and current governing rules, not a blanket approval of a brand or range.

Aaron Harris is a MotorSport NZ Licence Examiner for licences, with separate racing and race-engineering experience. He does not certify helmets. Rex Harris is an official New Zealand RSM Approved Radio Certifier with motorsport communications experience dating from 1975; radio certification is separate from helmet approval.

Which helmet standard applies?

Requirements differ between circuit racing, rally, offroad and karting, and may change by class and event. Check the current Motorsport Australia regulations and your series or event supplementary rules for the exact standard, expiry and permitted configuration before buying. An FIA, Snell or karting label on the actual helmet must match the requirements that apply to you. SA2025 is the latest Snell motorsport helmet standard, but do not assume every category or organiser currently accepts it.

For FIA homologated helmets, inspect the exact helmet's physical homologation label and current homologation status; a product family name alone does not establish eligibility. For karting, check the applicable karting body's current helmet rules separately from car-racing rules. For an NZ helmet standards guide, see the separate MotorSport NZ resource.

Compare helmets by use and fit

Choose the helmet style and standard required for your category, then check sizing, shell fit, visor or peak, FHR compatibility where required, and radio or intercom connections. Ask about the exact model and its label rather than assuming all Stilo helmets have the same approval or communications setup.

Frequently asked questions

Are Stilo helmets approved for every Motorsport Australia event?

No blanket answer applies. Check the actual helmet's label, homologation and configuration against your current category and event requirements, then confirm acceptance with the organiser.

Can you help with fitting and communications?

Yes. We can help compare fit, helmet electronics and intercom compatibility for the exact model. Contact us with your discipline, event, helmet size and communications setup. Our advice is not helmet certification.
