MyLaps TR2 Kart Transponder

The MyLaps TR2 Kart Transponder is the current-generation rechargeable transponder for kart racing in New Zealand. If your club or series uses MyLaps timing — and the vast majority of NZ karting venues do — this is the transponder your class requires. Accurate to the millisecond, rechargeable via USB, and managed entirely through the Speedhive app on your phone.

Harris Race Radios is an authorised MyLaps dealer for New Zealand, supplying genuine MyLaps transponders direct through the official MyLaps supply chain. When you buy from us, you're buying the real thing with full warranty support — not a grey import.

What Is a Transponder and Why Do You Need One?

A transponder is a small electronic device mounted to your kart that communicates with timing loops embedded in the track surface. Every time you cross a loop, the system records your passage to the millisecond — generating your lap times, race results, and heat scores that appear in your Speedhive account and on the official results sheet. Without a transponder, your laps cannot be officially timed and you cannot be classified in results. Most NZ karting clubs require competitors to carry their own transponder.

Which TR2 Do I Need — Kart vs Car/Bike vs Speedway?

Speedway (oval dirt track) TR2 Speedway Transponder

Common Mistakes When Buying a MyLaps Kart Transponder

  • Buying the wrong variant. The TR2 Kart is not interchangeable with the TR2 Car/Bike or TR2 Speedway. Always confirm which transponder your club or series requires before ordering.
  • Forgetting to budget for a subscription. The transponder purchase does not include a subscription. Factor in the cost of a 2-year or 5-year subscription when comparing prices.
  • Buying second-hand without checking subscription status. A second-hand TR2 with a lapsed subscription loses its unlimited warranty. Always verify subscription status before buying used.
  • Not registering before race day. Register your unit in the Speedhive app and confirm your transponder ID with your club timekeeper before your first event — not on the morning of.
  • Assuming one transponder covers all disciplines. If you race both karts and cars, you may need separate transponders. Contact Aaron Harris for advice on your specific situation.
