MyLaps TR2 Transponder Installation Guide

My Store Admin

Why Correct Installation Matters

Correct installation of your MyLaps TR2 transponder is critical for reliable timing. An incorrectly mounted transponder may not register consistently with the track timing loops — costing you lap times and potentially affecting your official results.

Mounting Requirements

Requirement Specification
Maximum mounting height 60 cm above ground
Orientation As vertical as possible
IP rating IP67 — sealed against water and dust
Max speed rating 260 km/h

Where to Mount the Transponder

Mount the TR2 as low and as vertically as possible on your vehicle, within 60 cm of the ground. The timing loop in the track surface reads the transponder as you pass over it — the closer to vertical and the lower the mount, the more reliable the read.

For speedway applications:

  • Avoid mounting directly in the path of stone chip or debris from other vehicles — the IP67 rating handles water and mud, but direct impact can damage the housing
  • Do not mount inside a metal enclosure — this will block the signal
  • Avoid mounting near large metal structures that may interfere with the signal

Using the TR2 Holder

MyLaps produces a dedicated TR2 Holder that provides a secure, repeatable mount and protects the transponder from vibration and impact. This is the recommended mounting solution for speedway applications. The holder allows the transponder to be removed easily between events.

Getting Started After Installation

  1. Confirm your transponder is registered to your MyLaps account via the Speedhive app
  2. Confirm your subscription is active
  3. Confirm with your club timekeeper that your transponder ID is registered for your entry
  4. Do a practice lap and check your time appears in Speedhive before the event begins

Troubleshooting

My transponder isn’t registering at the track.
Check: subscription is active, transponder ID is registered with the timekeeper, mounting height is within 60 cm, transponder is not inside a metal enclosure.

My times are inconsistent.
Check: transponder orientation (should be as vertical as possible), mounting security (vibration can affect reads), and that the unit is charged.
