Rugged Radios Intercoms

Choose your Rugged Radios intercom

Compare individual Rugged Radios intercom units for driver–co-driver and in-vehicle crew communication in New Zealand and Australia, alongside separately identified PCI alternatives. Harris Race Radios™ is the Exclusive Official Authorised Distributor and Dealer for Rugged Radios in Australasia, with practical selection, installation and repair support.

Go straight to the model you need

For exact specifications, price, options and supplied contents, choose the relevant product: RRP6100 Pro Race, RRP696 PLUS, 696 PLUS Remote Head, STX Stereo or STX Remote Head. A similar model name does not establish that its connectors, audio configuration or included cables are the same.

Also compare the RRP5050 two-place sport and race intercom, RRP660 expandable intercom, RRP5100 race intercom, RRP364-BT and RRP242 portable intercom. Confirm the exact product and configuration before ordering.

For selected PCI alternatives, compare the PCI Comlink 6 race and off-road intercom, PCI Comlink X Elite package and PCI TRAX Plus Stereo Intercom with Bluetooth and optional DSP. PCI is a separate brand; use each listing for its own specifications, configuration and compatible equipment.

Match the intercom to your vehicle and crew

  • Crew positions: start with the number of occupants who need to talk. Confirm whether extra positions require additional cables or expansion components.
  • Race or recreational use: compare microphone operation, independent volume adjustment and the controls you need in your vehicle. Do not assume every model has the same functions.
  • Bluetooth and stereo: check the exact intercom, helmet kit or headset and cabling combination. Bluetooth music support does not mean every driver-audio or radio connection is wireless.
  • Remote head or main unit: confirm dashboard space, control access, cable routing, power supply and the components included in the listing.
  • Portable installations: check the RRP242 product details for battery or vehicle-power options and the required audio connections.

For loud vehicles, consider the RRP6100 DSP configuration, supplied fitted and set up. Digital Signal Processing reduces unwanted background noise in speech audio, helping driver and co-driver hear instructions more clearly. Read our motorsport communications knowledge guide for DSP, radio integration and application-led system advice.

Clear audio starts with the helmet and installation

In rally and off-road racing, intelligible driver–co-driver instructions help the crew navigate and coordinate in a noisy cockpit. Match the helmet, microphone, speakers or earpieces, intercom and wiring as one audio system. The right plug shape alone does not establish compatible wiring, microphone type or mono/stereo operation.

The helmet is a critical part of the communications system. Our broad helmet range lets us help match the driver, discipline, head shape, fit, budget and communications requirement, rather than force unsuitable equipment together. Confirm the exact helmet's labels and current category requirements separately from its audio connections.

An intercom connects occupants inside the vehicle. A separate compatible two-way radio provides the link to the pit crew or other authorised users. A timely crew warning about a fluid leak, flat tyre or loose panel can help protect the driver and vehicle, but the radio interface, aerial, programming and event requirements need planning separately.

For circuit racing, plan the required official race-radio monitoring alongside team communication. In Australia, Race Management Channel (RMC) rules may require a designated team member to monitor and relay messages. Confirm the event's channel, format and monitoring arrangements; officials' receive-only channels must remain receive-only. Our NZ/AU communications authority guide explains the distinctions.

Need a package, replacement part or broader advice?

Choose Rugged Radios intercom kits when you need a package rather than an individual unit. Use intercom cables, Rugged interface adapter cables and Rugged intercom parts and accessories for compatible installation components and spares. For cross-brand shopping, see racing intercoms.

For Rugged aviation equipment, see our separate Rugged and Tely aviation headsets collection. Select the exact aviation product and connection for your application rather than assuming a motorsport intercom or helmet kit is interchangeable.

For broader explanations and setup planning, read the Rugged Radios buyer's guide, intercom installation guide or helmet and radio communications guide. For an exact model enquiry, start with its product listing above.

Buying Rugged Radios intercoms: FAQs

Where should I look for a specific Rugged intercom model?

Choose its product listing in this collection for model specifications, price, available options and supplied contents. This collection is for comparing the Rugged intercom range.

Does an individual intercom include helmet kits and all the cables?

Do not assume so. Check the exact listing's supplied contents. For packages with helmet kits or headsets, compare the separate Rugged Radios Intercom Kits collection.

Will my current helmet kit or headset work with a new intercom?

Compatibility depends on the exact intercom, microphone type, speakers or earpieces, connectors and wiring. Send your equipment model details and connector photos before ordering.

Can a Rugged intercom connect to a two-way radio?

Compatible models can interface with a suitable two-way radio using the correct connection and configuration. Confirm the intercom and radio models, required adapter or jumper cable, programming and event requirements.

Can Harris Race Radios help with installation or repairs?

Yes. Harris Race Radios provides engineering, installation, repair and setup support. Tell us the equipment models, vehicle, crew size and the problem or intended use so we can identify the appropriate next step.
