MyLaps TR2 Direct Power Transponder โ Speedway
The MyLaps TR2 Direct Power Speedway is the hardwired transponder for speedway oval racing in New Zealand. Unlike the rechargeable TR2 Speedway, the Direct Power unit draws power directly from your vehicle's 12V battery โ no charging required, ever. If you want a permanently installed transponder in your speedway car that is always ready without any maintenance, this is it.
Harris Race Radios is an authorised MyLaps dealer for New Zealand, supplying genuine MyLaps transponders direct through the official MyLaps supply chain. When you buy from us, you're buying the real thing with full warranty support โ not a grey import.
What Is a Direct Power Transponder?
A Direct Power transponder is hardwired to your vehicle's 12V electrical system rather than running on an internal rechargeable battery. It draws power continuously from the vehicle, meaning it is always on and always ready โ there is no battery to charge, no LED to check, and no risk of arriving at the track with a flat transponder. For speedway competitors with a dedicated race car, this is the cleanest and most reliable installation option.
Direct Power vs Rechargeable TR2 Speedway โ Which Should I Buy?
| Feature | TR2 Direct Power Speedway (this product) | TR2 Speedway Rechargeable |

Common Mistakes When Buying a Direct Power Speedway Transponder
- Expecting it to work as a rechargeable unit. The TR2 Direct Power cannot be used as a rechargeable transponder. It must be hardwired to a 12V supply at all times to function.
- Forgetting the power cable. The 12V Power Cable is required for installation and is sold separately. Order it at the same time to avoid delays.
- Buying it for a car you share between disciplines. If you move your transponder between vehicles or race both speedway and circuit, the rechargeable TR2 Speedway is more flexible.
- Forgetting to budget for a subscription. The transponder purchase does not include a subscription. Factor in the cost of a 2-year or 5-year subscription when comparing prices.
- Not registering before race night. Register your unit in the Speedhive app and confirm your transponder ID with your club timekeeper before your first event โ not on the night of.
