UHF Radios

UHF (ultra-high frequency) is often selected for shorter-range communication in built-up environments. Actual performance depends on terrain, building materials, antenna placement and radio configuration.

UHF radios commonly use shorter antennas, but not every UHF radio is a licence-free UHF CB unit. Check the model, programming, output and local rules.

VHF Radios

VHF (very high frequency) is often useful for appropriate licensed services in open areas. Range and clarity depend on terrain, antenna height and the particular service in use.

  • Open outdoor applications with suitable licensed frequencies
  • Marine and aviation services, each governed by its own equipment and licensing rules rather than interchangeable motorsport radios
  • Outdoor teams operating under the applicable authorisation

Neither UHF nor VHF guarantees coverage everywhere. Compare the terrain and operating permissions before buying.

Can You Convert VHF to UHF?

A single-band VHF radio cannot normally be turned into a UHF radio by changing a setting. Some purpose-built multiband models support both; check the actual hardware, licences and compatible team equipment.
