What Is the AiM Solo 2?
The AiM Solo 2 is a standalone GPS lap timer that logs lap and split times, speed, and track position using its internal GPS, without needing to wire into the vehicle's ECU.
The Solo 2 DL adds a data-logging layer: it can take an ECU or sensor feed (via CAN, RPM, or OBD depending on wiring) so you get engine and vehicle channels alongside GPS lap timing, reviewed in AiM's Race Studio 3 software.

Mounting Your Solo 2
Solo 2 units are commonly windscreen, dash, or roll-bar mounted so the GPS antenna has a clear view of the sky and the display is visible to the driver.
- A roll bar mount suits circuit cars with a roll cage.
- A suction mount is a fast option for track day cars moving between events, shared with the SmartyCam HD.
- The replacement mounting bracket covers a lost or damaged original bracket.
Keep the GPS antenna face clear of carbon fibre, metal roof structures, or anything blocking satellite reception, as this affects timing accuracy.
Power Options
Most racers wire in external power for reliability across a full event rather than relying on internal battery charge:
- The Solo 2 External Power Lead connects the unit to the car's 12V supply.
- The Solo 2 DL RPM & External Power Lead combines external power with an RPM signal input for the DL model.
Getting Data Off Your Solo

What's the difference between Solo 2 and Solo 2 DL?
The Solo 2 is a GPS lap timer only. The Solo 2 DL adds ECU or sensor data logging (such as RPM) alongside GPS timing.
Do I need to wire into my car for the Solo 2?
No, beyond power the standard Solo 2 doesn't need wiring into the car's electronics. The Solo 2 DL does need extra wiring for ECU or sensor channels.
Where should I mount it?
Mount it where the GPS antenna has a clear view of the sky and the display is visible to the driver, using a roll bar, suction, or dash mount.
Can I upgrade from a Solo 2 to a Solo 2 DL later?
