Rugged Radios High-Wind Mic Muff | MIC-MUFF-F-HP

The Rugged Radios MIC-MUFF-F-HP high-wind microphone cover, also called a mic muff or wind sock, helps reduce wind noise at a compatible headset microphone. Replace a worn cover or select suitable wind protection for circuit racing, rally and off-road motorsport communications.

Wind protection for usable speech

Wind at the microphone can mask speech, especially in exposed positions and open vehicles. A suitable cover helps protect the clarity of driver–pit calls in circuit racing and driver–co-driver or navigator instructions in rally and off-road applications. It is one part of a correctly matched audio system, not a guarantee of crystal-clear speech in every condition.

This is a microphone cover only. It does not include a microphone, boom, headset or helmet kit, and does not change the microphone's electrical compatibility or provide active noise cancellation.

The existing application list includes S3, S4, S5, EM56, M560, DM21, M101, M102, E350 and M350. It also lists Harris Race Radios™ and Rugged Radios headsets, including many over-the-head (OTH) and behind-the-head (BTH) arrangements. Microphone position matters

For the headset microphones covered by the existing fitting guidance, the flat face is the speaking side. Position the microphone at your lips and speak clearly, following the microphone and headset manufacturer's instructions. Do not treat the shape of the cover alone as proof of the capsule's speaking direction. After fitting, check that the cover stays in place and test the audio through your actual radio or intercom.

If wind noise remains, check microphone orientation, position, cover condition and the complete system rather than assuming a different cover will cure every audio fault.

Compare the right cover, not just the price

For smaller listed microphones such as EM56 and M560, compare the small foam microphone cover. For M101, M102, E350 and M350 applications, compare the standard foam mic muff. These are different cover options; have the fit and intended wind exposure checked for your installation.

For a compatible dynamic microphone, see the M102-D-RED low-gain dynamic microphone. For an electret system, see the M560-E EM56 microphone. Dynamic and electret microphones are not automatically interchangeable.
