Why a Four-Wheel Reference Matters

A single-wheel reading can miss the relationship between front and rear axles. String lines create a consistent datum alongside the car so a mechanic can compare distances at each wheel and work through toe, symmetry and thrust-direction checks. The datum must be set correctly for the vehicle and the chosen measurement method; a poorly centred string setup can produce repeatable but wrong numbers.

• Baseline: record what the car is doing before changing suspension settings.
• Adjustment: measure again after a toe or steering change, rather than relying on feel alone.
• Trackside check: investigate a handling change or kerb contact using the same reference method.
• Tyre management: use measurements and tyre evidence together to identify potential scrub; no kit can guarantee a tyre saving or a lap-time gain.

From String to Useful Measurement

1. Place the vehicle on a safe, stable working surface and establish the intended ride height and loading condition.
2. Position the BGR200 equipment using its supplied instructions and set the strings as a consistent reference for the actual car.
3. Measure and record each wheel using the method suited to the wheel, tyre or hub-stand arrangement.
4. Make one controlled adjustment, recheck the datum and measurements, then record what changed.
5. Test the car and compare driver feedback, tyre evidence and lap data before deciding whether the setup improved.

Fitment: check mounting points, vehicle width, height and the supplied components against your car. A suitable working surface and careful centring matter more than claiming the kit fits every vehicle or replaces every alignment machine.

String Lines or a Laser Gauge?

The right tool depends on the job. BGR200 is particularly useful when the team wants a documented whole-car datum; a compatible laser gauge can also have a place in quick checks. Neither removes the need for sound measuring practice.

Will a string-line alignment make my car faster?
