The Motorola DP4400 MOTOTRBO digital two-way radio provides practical handheld communications for motorsport pit crews and support personnel. Clear instructions between team members help coordinate pit activity, respond to developing problems and reduce misunderstandings around valuable race equipment.
Our first choice for in-car motorsport: Motorola DP3400
For an in-car radio with an external antenna, our first recommendation is the Motorola DP3400. Start with the complete DP3400 motorsport radio system when you need the car and pit equipment configured together. The DP4400 below is a separate handheld option for pit crews and support personnel, not a replacement for our recommended in-car radio.
Not suitable as an in-car radio: an external vehicle antenna cannot be fitted to this radio. Choose the DP4400 for handheld crew use, not an in-car installation. Contact Harris Race Radios™ for a suitable in-car radio and external-antenna system.
DP4400 features
- Available in UHF and VHF versions, with the correct band selected to suit your radio system.
- Up to 32 channels.
- Intelligent Audio and customisable voice announcements for status notifications.
- Five programmable buttons and a dedicated emergency button.
- IP57-rated protection, including submersibility to the manufacturer's specified conditions.
Motorsport system matching
Harris Race Radios™ can help match the handheld radio band, programming, crew headset and push-to-talk arrangement to your team's requirements. Matching the complete system matters more than choosing a radio in isolation: crew equipment must suit the working environment and communicate with the team's separate in-car system. Emergency-button operation depends on the system configuration and is not a substitute for event emergency procedures.
Supply and configuration
Contact Rex on 021 682912 or rex@raceradios.co.nz to confirm current availability, price, exact UHF or VHF version, programming and the supplied battery, charger and antenna package before ordering. This listing is for the DP4400, not the DP4401 or DP4400e. GPS, Bluetooth and intrinsically safe certification are not represented as included features of this listing.
Radio engineering, programming and support
Rex Harris is a qualified Radio Telecommunications Engineer, RSM Approved Radio Engineer (ARE127) and Approved Radio Certifier (ARC127), with motorsport radio experience since 1975. Harris Race Radios™ engineers, installs, programs and repairs motorsport communications systems, and can arrange Australian ACMA radio licences. Read our motorsport communications technical advice for help planning the complete installation.
Correct programming and authorised frequency use must be confirmed for the country, venue and users. Team two-way communication and officials’ one-way race control are different functions. Tell us about any New Zealand race-control or Australian Race Management Channel (RMC) monitoring requirements; do not assume the DP4400 provides the monitoring arrangement required by your event.
Country of manufacture: Malaysia. For the broader range, browse Motorola radios and accessories or Motorola digital radios.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the DP4400 as an in-car radio?
No. An external vehicle antenna cannot be fitted, so Harris Race Radios™ does not recommend the DP4400 for an in-car radio installation. It is intended here for handheld pit-crew and support use.
Can I use a DP4400 with my existing team radios?
Compatibility must be checked against the existing radios, frequency band and programming. Send Harris Race Radios™ your current radio model and system details before selecting a unit.
Does this include a helmet kit or headset?
A helmet kit or headset is not specified as part of this listing. We can advise on a suitable crew headset and push-to-talk equipment, and on a separate radio system for in-car use.
Which frequency version will I receive?
The frequency version and supply package must be agreed before ordering. Contact us to match the radio to your intended system.
