The Fastmate Racing RaceSense Standard Straight Replacement Temperature Probe is an adjustable tyre pyrometer probe for use with a compatible RaceSense gauge. Its fast-response thermocouple and low-thermal-mass probe end help you take repeatable tread-temperature readings during motorsport setup checks.
This listing is for the standard straight replacement probe only, not a complete gauge, the Mini probe or the right-angled version. A compatible measuring instrument is required.
Fast Response
After insertion, the probe typically reaches 90% of the final temperature in around 2 seconds and 95% in around 3 seconds. Allow 4 seconds or longer for the temperature response to level out. These are typical response times, not a guarantee of an instantly stable reading.
The RaceSense gauge displays up or down arrows while the measured temperature is changing; these disappear when the reading is stable.
Adjustable Depth for Consistent Measurements
A screw adjuster and locking nut let you set a repeatable insertion depth. Tyre temperatures vary with depth, so keep the measurement positions and depth consistent when comparing readings.
Fastmate recommends 3–5mm only where the actual tread depth safely permits. The probe can mechanically adjust up to 15mm, which can puncture most tyres. The maximum adjustment is not a safe insertion recommendation.
Follow the supplied instructions. Insert into tread blocks, not grooves, voids or sidewalls, and take particular care with worn tyres. Excessive insertion depth can puncture a tyre.
Low Thermal Mass and Practical Use
The adjustable probe end uses a low-thermal-mass engineering material to help avoid acting as a heat sink and altering the temperature being measured. Use readings alongside tyre pressures, vehicle setup and track conditions rather than treating a single temperature as proof of optimum performance.
For circuit racing and track days, keep the delay between leaving the circuit and taking readings consistent. For karting, compare measurements with your tyre supplier's guidance. In rally, speedway and offroad use, record the surface and conditions with each run. A repeatable routine is more useful than comparing unrelated readings.
Protect the needle from sideways loading and keep the probe and gauge away from heat sources and strong thermal gradients. Allow the reading to settle before recording it.
Choosing Your Probe
The straight probe is the design bundled with RaceSense gauge-and-probe packages. If you prefer the separate right-angled design for easier access on closed-wheel vehicles, order a gauge without a probe and purchase the right-angled probe separately. This listing does not include that version.
Confirm your exact RaceSense gauge model and connection before ordering. Do not assume every RaceSense probe fits every instrument.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this include a gauge?
No. This listing is for the standard straight replacement temperature probe. A compatible RaceSense measuring instrument is required.
Is this the right-angled probe?
No. This is the standard straight probe. The right-angled design is a separate item.
What insertion depth should I use?
Fastmate recommends 3–5mm where the actual tread safely permits. The 15mm maximum adjustment is not a safe insertion recommendation and can puncture most tyres. Follow the supplied instructions.
