What Harness Standard Do You Need?

Check the current MotorSport NZ Schedule A and your specific category and series regulations. For a harness listed as FIA 8853-2016 homologated, confirm the actual supplied label, validity date, belt configuration and installation before relying on it in competition. Don't assume one harness is accepted for every form of NZ motorsport.

What Should You Check Before Scrutineering?

  • The actual FIA or other required homologation label and validity date
  • The condition of the belts, buckle and mounting hardware
  • The manufacturer's specified strap routing, angles and anchor points
  • Compatibility of the seat, harness and any FHR/HANS device
  • Your series' current installation and safety requirements

2-Inch vs 3-Inch Webbing

Shoulder and lap webbing widths vary between harness models and approved FHR configurations. Select widths and geometry according to the specific harness, seat and restraint manufacturer's instructions; do not infer FHR suitability from width alone.
