If you've been researching Rugged Radios products, you've probably noticed they're available from a range of online sources — including direct from the US. So why does it matter where you buy?
AU & NZ Radio Compliance — This Is Non-Negotiable
US-market radios may be programmed for US services such as GMRS, which is not a local NZ or AU radio service. Radios need to meet the applicable ACMA (AU) or RSM (NZ) requirements, be certified as required and programmed appropriately for their intended channels; importing a US radio does not establish permission to transmit. A locked GMRS radio cannot simply be reprogrammed for local use. Intercoms are different: they do not need frequency programming.
The intercoms Harris Race Radios supplies are certified by us and compliant out of the box for NZ and AU. Connected radios are assessed separately: our qualified Radio Telecommunications Engineer and NZ RSM Approved Radio Certifier Rex Harris (ARC127), who also has an AU ACMA radio-certifier role, can advise on certification, suitable programming and the relevant operating authorisation for each market. Buying an intercom does not certify a connected radio.

Every product we sell is genuine, sourced directly through the official supply chain, and covered by full NZ and AU warranty support. Grey-market imports purchased from overseas may not be covered under warranty in Australasia — and getting repairs or replacements sorted internationally is slow and expensive.
