Rex Harris passed the NZRTC engineer exam in 1972, later worked as an engineer at Tait Radio Communications and began motorsport radio communications work in 1975. He is an official New Zealand RSM Approved Radio Certifier. Aaron Harris brings racing and professional race-engineering experience, and is a MotorSport NZ Licence Examiner for licences. That mix of radio engineering and on-track experience helps us check practical fit, wiring, audio and intended radio use.

Motorcycle communications

NZ Radio Guidance from a Radio Engineer
Rex Harris's official NZ RSM Approved Radio Certifier role concerns radio equipment. Some suitable locally certified UHF CB options can operate under the applicable general user arrangements; other equipment or frequencies require their own authorisation. Harris Race Radios™ supplies appropriate locally certified CB radios, but not every Rugged radio is a licence-free UHF CB unit. GMRS is not a local NZ or AU radio service, and US-programmed and GMRS radios are not legal for operation here. We can help check the exact unit and intended use rather than promise blanket legality. Are all Rugged Radios products licence-free in New Zealand?
No. Intercoms and mounts are not transmitting radios. For a radio, check the exact model's certification, frequency, power, programming and intended use. We supply suitable locally certified CB options and can advise on other requirements.
Can you help match my helmet, intercom and radio?
Yes. Tell us your helmet model, vehicle, discipline, crew size, existing connectors and event rules. We can help identify compatible components without assuming every setup suits every category.
Can I use a US GMRS radio in New Zealand?
No. GMRS is not a local NZ radio service; US-programmed and GMRS radios are not legal for operation in NZ or AU. Ask us about an appropriate locally certified CB alternative where suitable.
