A proper intercom and UHF CB radio system is essential for both safety and performance, whether you're racing, trail riding, or running a dune.
What You Need: The Two-Part System
A complete Polaris RZR communication setup requires two separate systems that work together:
- Intercom — for driver-to-co-driver communication inside the vehicle
- UHF CB Radio — for vehicle-to-vehicle communication with other vehicles in your group
These are not the same thing and cannot replace each other. You need both.

Helmet or Headset?
This is the most important question to answer before ordering. The Polaris RZR is used in two very different contexts:
Competition Use (Helmet Required)
If you're racing — whether that's off-road racing, rally, or any MSNZ or Motorsport Australia sanctioned event — a helmet is mandatory. In this case you need a helmet kit that fits inside your helmet and connects to the intercom. The Off-Road Helmet Kit with M102 Military Mic is the recommended option for the RZR's open cab environment, where engine and wind noise is significant. The M102 military-grade noise-cancelling microphone makes a substantial difference in high-noise conditions.
Recreational Use (No Helmet Required)
For trail riding, dune running, and recreational off-roading where helmets are not required, noise-cancelling headsets are the most practical option. They provide hearing protection as well as communication, and don't require a helmet to use. The RRP6100 with headsets bundle is the most popular choice for recreational RZR use.
UHF CB Radio — Not GMRS
A critical point for NZ and AU RZR owners: do not purchase a GMRS radio for your RZR. GMRS is a US-only radio standard and is illegal to operate in New Zealand and Australia. Many US-based Polaris RZR guides recommend GMRS radios — that advice does not apply here.
The correct radio for NZ and AU is the Rugged RDM-DB, which operates on UHF CB (476–477 MHz) and is fully legal and licence-free in both countries.
