The Rugged Radios Wired Helmet Kit with M102 Military Mic equips a suitable motorsport helmet for driver-to-crew communications through a compatible car harness. This circuit helmet kit combines a flex boom, dynamic microphone, 3.5mm earbud socket and coiled four-conductor lead. Choose the Mono or Stereo connection to match your earpieces or helmet speakers.

What the helmet kit provides

This is a helmet wiring kit, not a complete radio system or a helmet. Earbuds, car harness and radio are selected separately. Check the required components and wiring before ordering.

Match the helmet, harness and earbuds

Match the helmet-kit socket to the earpiece or speaker plug. Mono has traditionally been the standard motorsport communications connection: race-radio speech does not carry different left- and right-ear audio. Many newer earpieces use stereo plugs, so this kit is now offered in both connection types.

• Mono: choose this version for compatible mono-plug earpieces or helmet speakers. Store SKU: HK-IFC-M.
• Stereo: choose this version for compatible stereo-plug earpieces or helmet speakers. Store SKU: HK-IFC-S. Stereo describes the connection, not separate left/right race-radio audio.

Stereo earpieces plugged into the Mono version will play in only one ear. In the kit options supplied here, the Stereo socket has a smaller physical fit and the mono earpiece plug will not fit it. Do not force a plug into a socket. These fitment notes concern these supplied kit and earpiece options, not every nominal 3.5mm connector.

Confirm the plug type, socket fit, connector wiring and microphone requirements of your exact earpieces, car harness and radio before ordering. Four conductors alone do not guarantee compatibility. If you are unsure, send Harris Race Radios™ a photograph of your plug and the equipment details.

For a circuit-racing installation, position the microphone close to the mouth and secure the lead clear of helmet movement, restraints and emergency exit routes. Do not drill or alter a helmet shell or protective liner. Have the installation assessed for your helmet and intended use by the Harris Race Radios™ team.

Practical NZ and Australian race support

Clear driver-to-pit communication lets the crew relay information about a fluid leak, flat tyre or loose bodywork that the driver may not see. A timely call to pit can help protect both the driver and the car. Audio performance depends on microphone positioning, helmet fit, earbuds, wiring and the noise environment, rather than the kit alone.

For circuit racing, plan two-way pit communications together with reception of the event's one-way race-control instructions, called the Race Management Channel (RMC) in Australia. This helmet kit does not itself provide race-control reception or authorise transmission on a listen-only channel. Confirm the required event channel and radio configuration.

Does this kit include a helmet or radio?

No. It is a helmet wiring kit. The helmet, radio, compatible harness and earbuds are selected separately.

Which version should I choose: Mono or Stereo?

Choose Mono (HK-IFC-M) for compatible mono-plug earpieces or speakers, or Stereo (HK-IFC-S) for compatible stereo-plug earpieces or speakers. Match the plug, socket fit and wiring rather than choosing from the 3.5mm size alone.

What happens if I plug stereo earpieces into the Mono kit?

Stereo earpieces connected to this Mono kit will play in only one ear. Choose the compatible Stereo version for stereo-plug earpieces.

Will mono earpieces fit the Stereo kit?

For these supplied kit options, the mono earpiece plug will not fit the smaller-fitting Stereo socket. Do not force it; match mono earpieces to the compatible Mono kit.

Does Stereo mean different left- and right-ear race-radio audio?

No. Stereo here identifies the earpiece connection. The race-radio speech signal is not separate left/right audio.

Will it connect to any four-conductor car harness?

No. Confirm connector wiring, microphone requirements and radio compatibility for the exact harness before ordering.

Can Harris Race Radios help install it?

Does it provide race-control reception?
