AiM RPM-CAN Converter for PDM08 & PDM32

The AiM RPM-CAN Converter is designed to obtain an engine RPM value from vehicles without an ECU and transmit that value as a CAN message to a compatible AiM PDM system.

It is listed for use with AiM PDM08 and PDM32. This is an RPM signal interface, not an ECU, PDM, data logger, or universal vehicle-CAN converter. Confirm the engine signal, PDM system, wiring, and configuration before ordering.

What is confirmed

  • AiM systems: PDM08 and PDM32.
  • Function: Reads an engine RPM signal and transmits the RPM value on CAN.
  • Engine application: Vehicles or engines without an ECU are specifically referenced.
  • Signal ranges listed by the source record: Low-voltage signal from 150 to 400 V and square-wave signal from 5 to 50 V.
  • Product type: Motorsport Sensors and Interfaces.

The current product record does not specify the signal connector, pinout, wire colours, power supply, ground requirements, input selection, CAN message format, termination, or complete engine fitment list. Confirm the stated voltage ranges and signal requirements against the official AiM documentation for the installation.

Fitment and setup checks

  • Confirm that the connected PDM is an AiM PDM08 or PDM32.
  • Identify the engine’s actual RPM signal type and voltage before connecting.
  • Verify the converter power, ground, signal input, CAN wiring, connector, and pinout against the correct AiM documentation.
  • Confirm CAN configuration, message handling, termination, and RPM scaling in the connected PDM system.
  • Do not connect an unknown ignition, coil, tachometer, or vehicle-CAN signal without checking its electrical characteristics.
  • Secure wiring away from heat, abrasion, water exposure, and moving components.
  • Test the displayed RPM value against a known reference before competition use.

See the AiM PDM08 and AiM PDM32 pages for related power-distribution systems. Use the AiM Downloads & Documentation page for official live AiM product documentation, software, and firmware sources.

RPM-CAN Converter FAQ

What does the AiM RPM-CAN Converter do?

It reads an engine RPM signal and transmits the RPM value as a CAN message to a compatible AiM PDM system.

Which AiM PDM systems is it listed for?

The current product record lists AiM PDM08 and PDM32.

Can it obtain RPM without an ECU?

Yes. The product is specifically described for vehicles or engines without an ECU, subject to signal and installation compatibility.

What signal ranges are listed?

The source record lists a low-voltage signal from 150 to 400 V and a square-wave signal from 5 to 50 V. Confirm these values and the required signal type against the official AiM documentation before connection.

Is this a universal RPM or vehicle-CAN converter?

No. Confirm the engine signal, electrical characteristics, PDM08 or PDM32 compatibility, CAN wiring, and configuration before ordering or installing.
