AiM MyChron Troubleshooting & Error Codes Guide

This guide lists the most common MyChron 5 and MyChron 6 issues, error codes, and fixes. It is designed to help kart racers in New Zealand and Australia quickly diagnose and solve problems at the track.

1. Common MyChron problems & quick fixes

MyChron won’t turn on

  • Battery fully discharged → charge for 30–60 minutes
  • Faulty charger or cable → try another cable
  • Damaged power button → inspect for debris

No RPM reading

  • Wrong engine type selected
  • Loose RPM wire
  • Sensor too close to ignition coil

No temperature reading

  • Sensor plugged into wrong port (CH/WT)
  • Loose sensor thread or washer
  • Broken sensor cable

No GPS lock

  • GPS08 blocked by bodywork
  • Interference from ignition
  • Not enough satellites (cloudy weather)

Lap times not recording

  • Track not recognised
  • Start/finish line not set
  • GPS signal weak

2. MyChron error codes

Below are the most common error messages and what they mean.

Error Code Meaning Fix
E01 – Sensor Not Detected MyChron cannot detect a connected sensor Check cable, port, and sensor type
E02 – GPS Not Found No satellite lock Move GPS08 to clear sky view
E03 – RPM Signal Error RPM signal too weak or noisy Check engine type & wiring
E04 – Low Battery Battery voltage too low Charge MyChron fully
E05 – Memory Full Internal storage is full Download & delete sessions
E06 – Firmware Error Corrupted or outdated firmware Update via RaceStudio 3

3. GPS troubleshooting

GPS issues are the most common MyChron problem. Check the following:

  • GPS08 mounted high with clear sky view
  • Cable routed away from ignition coil
  • Firmware updated
  • Wait 20–40 seconds for satellite lock

4. RPM troubleshooting

RPM issues usually come from wiring or incorrect settings.

  • Select correct engine type (Rotax, IAME, Vortex, Briggs, Yamaha)
  • Ensure RPM wire is wrapped correctly
  • Keep RPM wire away from spark plug lead
  • Check for damaged insulation

5. Temperature sensor troubleshooting

  • Ensure sensor is tight in the adaptor
  • Check for broken wires near the sensor head
  • Verify correct port (CH/WT)
  • Replace sensor if readings jump or drop suddenly

6. Wi‑Fi & connectivity issues

  • Move closer to the MyChron
  • Disable other Wi‑Fi devices nearby
  • Use USB‑C (MyChron 6) for fastest downloads

7. When to replace a sensor

Replace a sensor if you see:

  • Erratic readings
  • Sudden drops to zero
  • Physical cable damage
  • Corrosion at connectors

8. Trackside troubleshooting checklist

  • Check all sensor cables
  • Verify GPS lock
  • Confirm engine type
  • Check battery level
  • Restart MyChron
