Club-Level Systems

A simpler analogue or digital setup may suit a smaller crew, but start with the event's radio rules and your helmet connections, not a presumed price tier. Ask us for current product pricing and a list of the parts needed for both ends of the conversation.

What a Complete Pit-to-Car Setup Needs

  • Driver: helmet speakers and microphone matched to the helmet, a secure cable connection and a reachable PTT control where appropriate.
  • Vehicle: a suitable radio, power and wiring, an antenna matched to its authorised operating frequencies, and a mount that fits the car.
  • Pit crew: compatible handheld or base equipment, headset, charging and a clearly agreed channel procedure.
  • Test: confirm audio level, connectors, PTT operation, antenna installation and permitted channels before the event, not on the grid.

Driver-to-co-driver intercom audio is not the same thing as transmitting outside the vehicle. We can help connect those functions without assuming a radio in a pre-wired kit is automatically approved.

NZ Radio Rules: Check the Exact Equipment

Some suitable locally certified CB equipment can operate under the applicable general user arrangements. Professional or private-channel systems may require their own authorisation. Not every Motorola, Kenwood or Rugged radio is a locally certified UHF CB unit. Check the physical model label, certification, frequencies, power and programming, plus the current rules of your category and event organiser. GMRS is not a local NZ or AU radio service; US-programmed and GMRS radios are not legal for operation here. Rex's official RSM Approved Radio Certifier role supports exact-equipment NZ advice, not a blanket guarantee across the catalogue.

What do I need for driver-to-pit communication?

Usually a suitable in-car transmitting radio, compatible crew radio, helmet microphone and speakers, PTT control and correctly matched antenna. Your class and event rules determine whether and how you can use them.

Is an intercom the same as a two-way radio?

No. An intercom connects occupants inside the vehicle. A transmitting radio connects the vehicle to external crew where permitted. Some complete setups integrate both.

Are all race radios in this range legal in New Zealand?

No. Check the exact radio's NZ certification, frequency, power, programming and intended use. We supply appropriate locally certified CB options, while other professional systems can require authorisation.

Can I use a US GMRS radio at a NZ event?

No. GMRS is not a local NZ radio service, and US-programmed and GMRS radios are not legal for operation in NZ or AU. Ask us about an appropriate locally certified CB option where suitable.

Can you match the system to my helmet and crew equipment?
