What is SA2025?

SA2025 is the latest helmet standard from the Snell Memorial Foundation, updated in 2025. It is widely accepted in North American motorsport and increasingly recognised internationally. The SA2025 standard includes updated impact attenuation requirements, improved fire resistance testing, and enhanced rollbar contact protection compared to the previous SA2020 standard.

The Schuberth SP1 Carbon Evo is homologated to both SA2025 and FIA 8860-2018, making it the most versatile helmet in the Schuberth range.

What is FIA 8860-2018?

FIA 8860-2018 is the FIA's premium helmet standard, mandatory or recommended in the top tiers of FIA-sanctioned motorsport. It includes stringent requirements for shell penetration resistance, visor impact protection, and advanced ballistic protection (in the ABP variant).

There are two versions:

  • FIA 8860-2018 — the base standard, required in many FIA circuit racing series
  • FIA 8860-2018 ABP — adds Advanced Ballistic Protection, required or recommended in some series and preferred by many professional teams

  • Rally: FIA 8860-2010 is widely accepted — SF4
  • North American series (IMSA, NASA, SCCA): SA2025 accepted — SP1 Carbon Evo
  • Club racing: Regulations vary — contact your organiser

Do You Need SA2025 or FIA 8860-2018?

If your series accepts either standard, the SP1 Carbon Evo gives you maximum flexibility — it's the only Schuberth helmet homologated to both. If your series specifically requires FIA 8860-2018 ABP, the SP1 Hybrid is the correct choice.
