FreeM Racesuit

How to Choose the Right Racesuit

We stock heaps of different racesuits for all different budgets and needs. This blog will help you find which of those is perfect for you!

Let's talk about safety standards...

All of the suits we stock are FIA approved, this means they comply with the FIA's safety requirements. They are held to the highest standards making them some of the safest suits on the market. This is the standard that is used for F1 and it is the same standard that is required of most safety gear in New Zealand motorsport. However if you're unsure you can always check the regulations of your specific class.

What about choosing the right brand?

We stock two great brands here at Harris Race Radios - P1 racewear and FreeM racewear. They both offer customized suit options as well as off the peg suit options meaning it is ready to wear straight away. Both brands also offer fireproof underwear, balaclavas, gloves, and boots.

FreeM offers specific karting gear including rib protectors and neck braces. P1 offers female specific items including a racing bra and a specific female suit.

Important things to look for...

The important things too look out for when purchasing a suit are layers, comfort and fit, weight, and design. The general expectation that the more layers a suit has the more protection from fire it can provide. Therefor for the safest suit it is best to purchase one with three layers if you can. In terms of comfort and fit there are no set rules it is just important for you too feel comfortable in the suit to allow you to focus best on your driving. Our suits are all very lightweight keeping the weight of the car down as well as being more comfortable for you too race in. Design, as mentioned we offer off the peg and custom race suits it is upto you what you want! it is as simple as this, you know what you want and what you like the look of.
